Eye. There’s two things I love about this word. First, it’s almost the same as the word for window. Second, the Czech word and the English word are really similar too, like it was just a handwriting mistake a few hundred years ago. Round out those E’s and flip over the Y and you’re practically there.

In honor of “Up and Down,” this year’s Oscar nominee from the Czech Republic, I would like to nominate the following words and phrases for the Little Czech Primer: “fried bat,” “thief,” and “human rights.” But just in case those don’t make it, (besides, I haven’t checked the Czech yet), how about “fungovat” and “bubny” (drums)?
I could have sworn there was a card for “eager” (horlivy?) but it’s not there anymore.
I have an entry for eager, but it’s not horlivy, it’s dichtivy.
Okay, thanks for your reply about “dychtivy.”
