Radio Praha’s ABC of Czech

This resource is new to me, but it’s high on my list now: Radio Praha’s ABC of Czech. It offers short (less than five-minute) audio programs dealing with Czech words, phrases and idioms. The files on the site are in RealAudio format, but if you subscribe to their RSS feed each episode will appear with an mp3 enclosure. It’s really worth a listen!

SlovoDne.cz

I’ve put off blogging this link for so long I’ve forgotten where I first saw it: SlovoDne.cz. Most of it is in Czech, but one of their crew, posting as “Fred’s Czech Mate” offers great commentary of Czech language and culture. The first of his entries I encountered was No Jo, and the accompanying audio is great. Same goes for Twister.

Oh, and because my Czech is so dismal, the rest of the site could be about overthrowing the world or someone’s paper clip collection for all I know!

Miniature Prague

[ Edit: Flickr photo removed ]

I have hundreds of digital pictures of Prague from my last trip (over four years ago now!), but I’ve only posted a handful online. I do watch Flickr for pictures of Prague, which is how I found this one. I subscribe to the RSS feed for the tag “Prague,” and see new pictures of the city every day in my RSS reader. And that doesn’t even include the ones tagged with “Praha” or “Prag” or any number of other possibilities. It’s a great way to stay in touch with the city.

What few pictures I’ve posted myself are posted in response to something I’ve seen in someone else’s photostream. You can see them in my Prague set.

Site Changes

Friends of the Little Czech Primer will notice some changes around here. Beside the new look for this page, I’ve made major changes to all other parts of the site. Most of the changes are behind the scenes: the site is database-driven now (finally), and I’ve resturctured the word pages so that the URLs are a little more friendly. I’m also trying to use properly encoded accented Czech characters everywhere I can. The index is a good example of that change.

I’ve also added some notation about parts of speech, and you can easily switch how you want to browse words by clicking the controls: Nouns to browse nouns, to browse verbs, to browse adjectives, and to browse all if them together.

If anyone is having technical difficulties with the new format, please drop me a line or post a comment here. Now it’s time to get back to some updates!
