  1. No, it’s not Čechia and it’s complicated. The country is called by natives either Česko, Čechy or even “ČR” (for Česká republika). Half of the country hate the newfangled name Czechia and consider it an clumsy abomination and unsolicited intrusion into the English language. To my American friends, who ask me what’s wrong with the name Bohemia, I have to explain that the Czech government geniuses “explained” that Bohemia is unacceptable, because it doesn’t include Moravia and Silesia. As if for instance Spain couldn’t be called that because of Catalonia, the Basque Country, Navarre and the Canary Islands.
    There’s a word “Čechie” (many sports club use it as part of their name) that denotes Czech allegory, not the country.
